WHP will donate a 10,000-liter capacity water borehole at the Buea Town Integrated Health Centre in the Republic of Cameroon in Central Arica. Drilling will begin in November 2023.

The Buea Town Integrated Health Center is the lone health facility within Buea Town Health Area, which covers a population of about 15,000 inhabitants. This area is noted for its intermittent water supply. o be fully functional, the center needs up to 30,000 liters of water daily. Unfortunately, due to an intermittent water supply made worse by the destruction of critical infrastructure, the center gets no more than half of that amount on any given day.

The situation was made worse earlier this year by devastating flash floods and mudslides that caused widespread destruction across the town. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the floods have destroyed critical drinking water supply infrastructure, with water catchments destroyed and water supply pipes broken in numerous neighborhoods, and affected about 4000 inhabitants.

The borehole will help alleviate the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene situation for both the health center and the neighboring communities.
