In Africa and other parts of the world, many illnesses, disabilities and deaths are caused by the consumption of unsafe food. In Cameroon, food safety is a major health issue due to poor hygiene, poor conditions in food production, inadequate food storage, among others.

Vendors prepare and sell perishable foods in open air markets and on the streets in unsanitary environments, with little attention to packaging and preservation to guard against contamination and decay. Consumers, on the other hand, prepare and eat these unsafe foods with disastrous health consequences, particularly for vulnerable segments of the population such as children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with chronic diseases.

WHP will be organizing a workshop in Cameroon in May 2017 to educate community stakeholders on how to ensure food safety at all stages of the food chain, from farm to plate.

Please donate whatever amount you can afford to make this project a resounding success. No amount is too small in this effort to build healthy and thriving communities.
